2012 Vans Wängl Tängl Skate Results

The 10th Anniversary of the Vans Wängl Tängl Presented by G-Shock in Mayrhofen, Austria showcased two days of some of the finest transition skateboarding known to man.

The unique format spanned two days with a “Cash for Tricks” style Best Trick Contest, where skaters were handed cash every time they landed something impressive, followed by a two man team style session where skaters hit the ramp in pairs.

There were many winners but Jake Collins took home the most cash for tricks, with back-to-back moves on the massive mini-ramp.  Standout skating for sure.

In the end, the final 4 teams split the prize money evenly, with each skater taking home 800 Euro. The Hobnobs:  Josh “Manhead” Young & Andy Scott, Team ZWIMI: Micky Iglesias and Phil Zwijsen, The Bats: Martino Cattaneo and Kevin Blaser, The Dutchies: Nassim Guammaz & Daan Van Der Linden.

Tobias & Max Grunwald were the youngest skaters to enter, at age 10 & 12 and they won the Facebook Competition, taking home 400 euro each. Check out their page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BoarderBoys/356763674334188

The night concluded with a packed open-air free concert at the Musik Pavillion. Lylit’s soothing soulful voice drew spectators in from the skate event.  Local Austrian Hip Hop crew Ill Mindz teamed up on stage to deliver lyrical flows for the crowd. Black Twang AKA Tony Rotton brought the kind of legendary live performance that he’s known for. Roots Manuva stirred up the crowd into a frenzy.

M.O.P headlined with a mix of classic hits, new material and energized Hip Hop.  In the end, all the artists joined each other on stage for a 20-minute jam session that the crowd won’t soon forget.

Last week I spent in Mayrhofen for the Vans Wangle Tangle. I had a blast catching up with friends and the Vans crew. It was so hot over there! T-shit shred all round, first day though powder turns! rest of the week was blue bird skies and park laps.

Right now I am in Biarritz, and am just getting in the first surf of the year!

Vans Wängl Tängl Art Exhibition hosted by Looking Sideways

The Looking Sideways art show opened last night at the Vans Wängl Tängl Presented by G-Shock in Mayrhofen, Austria.  A couple of hundred party-goers and art fans checked out works on display by Fos, French, Blaise Rosenthal, Ed Templeton, Tristan Huber, Corey Smith, Schoph, Danny Wainwright, Danny Larsen and Tim Karpinski.

"It’s been great to be part of a show that brings together such a strong line-up of artists and it’s pretty amazing to see everyone’s different styles", said artist Schoph, who used the occasion to premiere a new work called Dead Questions in the Eyes. "I’ve been in plenty of shows now but the Looking Sideways crew have definitely raised the bar in terms of the space and the quality of the work".

Other highlights at the show included a huge 6’ by 4’ illustration by skater and artist French, which dominated the gallery in Mayrhofen’s Europahaus, and the start of a huge live art piece by Looking Sideways art director Owen Tozer. It’s being created using images sent in by members of the public, who were invited to contribute to the project by uploading images of their eyes looking sideways to the LS Facebook page, or by emailing them to eyes@wearelookingsideways.com.

The final piece will be used to create the graphics for an exclusive run of limited edition Looking Sideways x Endeavor x Vans Wängl Tängl snowboards, with the winners of the boards chosen from those who contributed images.

Tozer and some of the artists in attendance at the show will be working on the piece on site at the Europahaus throughout the week, so members of the public have until Friday 23rd March to send in their eyes and have a chance of winning one of the boards.

Tomorrow night’s music line up will continue the “Contest-ival” spirit of the event with a heavy line up for the FREE music concert at the Arena in Mayrhofen.  Semprre Caoz, Those Furious Flames and Truckfighters will play the show headlined by Seether.
